Happy Holidays!
I love this time of year! Everyone is so
festive, breaking out family recipes, making
party plans and traveling. Yikes! Then there
is shopping, traffic and more shopping.
DDL offers late night pickups M-F at our
Bell location for late night shoppers, and
party cocktailers. For just $10 you can pick
your pooch up at our Belltown location until
11pm. We'll keep your pup entertained while
you get your holiday fun in.
In this issue you will find, along with the
holidays, some 'doggie advisories'
such as
being careful special foods, Holiday trees &
lights and poinsettias, to name a few, which
can be toxic to pups.
Fancy up your pooch for your family and bring
them in for a full groom or herbal bath. Our
groomers are getting very busy so we
recommend early reservations along with
overnight accommodations.
We wish you a happy holiday season and a very
merry and safe New Year!
Thank you for trusting DDL to care for your
pooch while you work, shop, travel and play!

With the hustle and bustle of this beautiful

full-scale dog salon such as Herbal Ear
Washes, Ruby Red Pawlish applications, fun
holiday Bandanna Styling, and cute Fluffy
Haircuts for Santa. Just like children, your
pooches want
to be ready!
A winter quick tip from one of DDL's Pet
Stylist Jennifer Law of our Elliot Location:
"Its cold outside! If you are planning to put
a sweater on your pooch,
remember to take it off! Sweaters (especially
the ones damp from the rain
or a dry one put onto a damp dog) are known
to cause unwanted matting. And
always remember to brush their hair after
removing the sweater."

Happy Holiday Training Tips |
 |
Here are a few tips for keeping your pets
safe and happy around the holidays from our
training experts Cora Wittekind and
Teri Aslett:
Think about using alternative choices for
traditional Tinsel. Tinsel when
eaten, may twist in your dog's intestines and
might cause serious problems.
Christmas-tree water often contains
chemicals
to help the tree last longer and if your
pooch decides it's the new drinking hole, it
may cause indigestion problems. Keep your
pets away from the tree and try putting a
cover over the tree stand.
Pine needles, if
ingested, may
puncture holes in your pet's intestines.
Mistletoe, Poinsettias and
Amaryllis are
toxic. So Please regularly sweep up fallen
pine needles and be aware of these poisonous
holiday plants.
Keep all Chocolate and Macadamia
Nuts in closed containers because they
can be extremely
toxic to your dog. The higher the cocoa
concentration,
the darker the chocolate, the more dangerous.
A tired dog is a good dog. Exercise
your dog
prior to the arrival of guests. After 30
minutes of walking or playing, most dogs will
be ready to take a nap just as guests
arrive. When pets
are stressed by unfamiliar circumstances,
they typically pant more, so keep fresh water
readily available for them to drink.
A huge holiday suggestion - a cute
and cuddly puppy may seem the perfect gift
choice, but many of these holiday presents
end up at animal shelters. Instead of a pet
as a surprise gift, start your animal
adoption by taking your loved ones to the
animal shelter
to meet your new companion first hand.
A dog takes a real commitment of time, and
adoptive owners must be ready to participate
in training and managing the responsibility
of their new family member.
If you know someone who's serious about
giving a dog as a gift, consider buying a
gift certificate for training as well.

Winter Coughs & Sniffles
By Clare Morris D.V.M., Urbanvet
Just like in people, the colder temperatures
of fall seem to bring along respiratory
issues such as in
younger dogs,
this honking cough can be accompanied by a
runny nose and red watery eyes or a fever.
(signs of fever is usually demonstrated by a
decrease in appetite). If a dog has only a
mild case, often there are few symptoms. They
may have only a slight cough or "gag" when
eating or drinking, or if they get excited.
There have been quite a few cases of kennel
cough this fall in the Seattle area. If your
dog has any upper respiratory symptoms or
cough, a veterinarian should be
consulted.
Treatment may include antibiotics, cough
suppressants or simply rest depending on the
severity of the case. Coughing dogs may be
contagious and should be kept away from other
dogs, especially young puppies. Vaccination
can help prevent kennel cough.
Unfortunately the vaccine only seems to last
approximately 6 months.
Dogs that come into contact with a lot of
other dogs (dog parks and daycare should be
vaccinated every 6 months, especially if they
are young, 2 years and under). Ask your
veterinarian if your dog is at risk for
kennel cough.

RuffWear Bootie Sale |
 |
RuffWear Booties are now $5 off per pair
See coupon below!
With the temperature dropping we're all
looking forward to some fun in the snow but
there are some not so fun side-effects for
Barkley and Bella.
Ice chips can
form around
their toes, clinging to the little hairs and
removing it can be a bit painful for
sensitive paws; this is when a Padshave could
come in handy.
On all those icy sidewalks you'll find lime
rock salt or calcium chloride salt- helpful
for melting the sidewalks but when Bella
licks her feet later she could end up
vomiting or having diarrhea. This year we're
happy to be carrying disposable rubber
booties for Barkley's quick trips outside or
for longer treks we also have RuffWear
booties.
Not to mention, with the RuffWear Booties,
Bella will be ready for our Annual
Snowshoe Trip on January 12, 2008.
